Meet the judges and compere for this year’s competition.
George Hinchliffe
Founder member and director of The Ukulele Orchestra of GB, George Hinchliffe was born and grew up in Sheffield and later studied in Leeds. He began playing the ukulele in 1960 and founded the ukes in 1985. Has worked with many notable names, including Michael Nyman, Mary Wells, Brian Eno, The British Youth Choir, Ron Geesin, The Anjaana Asian Music Group of Bradford, Snake Davis and the Alligator Shoes. As well as being a judge, George will be the compere for the 2021 Leeds Pub Piano Competition.
Clare Teal
Yorkshire-born Clare Teal is one of the UK’s most celebrated and much-loved singers. With her stunning voice, encyclopaedic knowledge of jazz, swing and big band music, and her innate warmth and wit, Clare is a sought after singer throughout the country as well as a prolific recording artist and popular former BBC Radio 2 broadcaster and a recent addition to the Jazz FM family.
Tim Lihoreau
Tim Lihoreau is the presenter of the UK’s most listened-to classical music breakfast program, Classic FM’s More Music Breakfast. As the station’s Creative Director, Tim has won a multitude of awards for his radio writing and production on both sides of the Atlantic. With a degree in music from the University of Leeds, Tim worked as a professional pianist and at a classical and jazz record label before moving into radio. Along with his wife, he runs three amateur choirs in his home village in Cambridgeshire and regularly plays the organ at his local church.
